1. WELCOME

November 24, 2025

Hey Gurl,

Welcome to the annoouncement section for my debut novel TO JONES, forthcoming 2026 from Limit Zero Publications. From concept to publication, this mofu was a twelve-year journey. It took years to find the voice. Years to complete a rough, first, second, third, and final drafts. Years of professional encouragement that all but twice ended with rejection. All this, while raising four children (now grown). As an older first-time novelist who’s spent my entire adult life devoted to my art, I’m riding this wave as hard and best I can. Because like any long-awaited holiday, the hype is always much, much bigger and longer than the day itself. The holiday comes and goes and rarely does anything change. I get it. I’m too old to not get it.

Was there a book advance? Sadly, no. In fact, I won’t see a dime until after 500 copies have sold, a number that seems thoroughly impossible. After 500, I’ll receive one dollar per book. My publisher is a small outfit with hardly any staff and no operating budget. For them, this too, is a labor of love and devotion. After all the expenses required to bring my book into the world, they’ll be lucky to just break even. For real. I tell you this because I believe in foundational transparency.

But consider this, most manuscripts remain unfinished. Most books never see the light of day. Some of the most talented writers (many of them are friends) may never be pubished. With the launch of TO JONES, I’ll join the ranks of authors in the 99%. And though I can’t help but cradle that pesky and persisent 1% fantasy, the dream of a breakthrough hit, of going viral, of somehow finding readers outside my immediate community, the reality is not only unlikely, but highly improbable. I know this going in.

And yet. And still.

A woman can dream.

Sometimes, dreaming is our superpower.
