Shadow Play
I’ve practiced my responses to exciting questions—”Do you have a pub date yet!?” and “What’s going on with your book??” and “When does the book come out!?” and “Any news?”—for over a year now. Between my face and my voice, I always come off either frustrated or on the verge of tears. Both can be true.
It’s good that my lovely and talented book designer is my friend. It’s good that blurbists have given me words I cling to like Rose on the doorframe. It’s good that indie press authors and Big 5 authors promise it’ll all be worth it in the end; I’ll have a book in the world! It’s good that my closest friends wholeheartedly believe that I have a novel coming out in 2027. “I do?” I say, doubtful. “You do!” they cheer.
“An erotic pilgrimage, a raunchy, wild, hilarious novel of sex and becoming. With boundless invention and constant, earthy wit, Brazil has fabricated a quest that goes beyond sex, though never around it, into something like wonder and hard wisdom.” - Jon Raymond, author of God and Sex
That’s what I try to focus on during the publishing journey of TO JONES.
That, and redrafting my second novel.
And shadow play.
